Hi guys I have just lowered my car approx 25mm, and replaced the rear subframe bushes so I want to get all the Geo on my car set up right, does anyone have any recommendations for good places on the South Coast or should I just pay for a tank of petrol and get my arse up to Wheels in Motion for the day?

Thanks

I've used a couple of places around here - Merityre in Hook and Micheldever Tyres in Micheldever (although had poor results from there recently).

I'll be taking my car to be done shortly, however the garage specialises in ITRs :)

WIM is in Bucks rather than the South Coast....

They're very good though - they fixed my wonky steering wheel, and camber problems after Quack Fit bodged the job. Very highly rated by a lot of people.

Supertracker off of Portsmouth Road, Sholing - Southampton. (Behind Picadors).

They supply the kit at the front office, and have a bay for providing their own alignment service around the back. Found my rear camber was 3.5 degrees out, which explains why my car handled like a bag of ****, and was chewing tyres up!

Solid,

I'll chat to you properly on IRC, but basically I echo all of the above about Wheels In Motion. 100% Tony is the man to speak to.

Incidentally. FWIW I should probably have mine done too. Just had new bushes all round and new ARBs front and back. How much is a full alignment roughly? I need my steering geometry adjusted as well (annoying not having the wheel at centre). A mini meet might be a good plan!

It costs £100 for full geometry, including putting the steering wheel to centre if needed

Cheers for that. I thought it was cheaper than that but never mind! My car has quite high negative camber as standard, will that make much difference? I don't want to throw out the handling for the sake of a slight bit less tyre wear.

So go on, who's up for a mini-meet to WIM?

Do it yourself with bits of wood and string. It will almost certainly be more accurate and shouldn't take you long at all, or indeed cost anything!

Bits of wood and string more accurate that one of these?

LSPIII, Tony will have default settings and customised settings (depending on what car you have) so will be able to tell you exactly what it will be like, he will also be able to show you on screen if or how much by your car is out of the standard geo setup.

Its not cheap because the machine that he uses aint cheap! Its great value if your car is fully adjustable as he can alter the setup much more than just an alignment!

Yep, they're unreliable. The lasers get knocked out of alignment so easily. You cannot verify their results, you just have to take them at face value.

Race teams will use the wood and string method. Those bits of kit look flashy but just complicate what is a very simple measuring exercise.

Here's how to do it:
