Just installed this on my Dell Mini9 that had been running XP Home and was almost all out of HDD space. So far its brilliant. No additional drivers were needed, though I haven't tried the mic yet. Everything else works "out of the box". With everything installed I still have 4Gb of HDD space free. Under XP Home and a few small apps, Skype, Google Chrome, Winamp, Open Office and Firefox...I had less than 500Mb left and the machine kept freezing.

The desktop looks a little cluttered with all the app shortcuts on there, but it all works very well. The machine feels MUCH faster than it did with XP. At the moment I can't see a reason to go back to XP.

If you don't like the ever-present "netbook" launcher window/desktop, just use the usual Gnome desktop. It's the same software backend, so it's not like running a regular desktop is going to be more work for the system. The idea behind the giant launcher is that it puts most-used tasks on top and automagically makes everything full screen to better compensate for the lack of screen real estate common to most netbooks.

I like to use it on my HTPC since it makes everything a bit less desktop-computer-y. I could see it being a great start at a touchscreen-friendly interface for Gnome, though for that use case the application stack, especially Firefox, need some massaging.

I just installed this on my Aspire One actually. I have a question though...

Using Firefix is fine, everything is all set up nicely etc but just one niggle is that when i scroll up and down in the broswer there's a lot of screen tearing. Do you reckon this is a driver issue? It's installed as is, i havent added anything and since wireless is running nicely i assumed it was bundled with drivers.

Is this the case?

It's offering me an Atheos "madwifi" driver, but it's working fine as is so i dont want to start messing about with that. Not really sure how to ignore it and move on to another driver... select "this driver is not activated"?

edit: seem sthat's the only driver it's offering me.
