Is it any good? I really cant be bothered with it if its going to be like a N97

Lots of happy users in there. It's a great phone running Android and with so many good apps out there now, I cannot see any reason not to get this... well aside from the fact that there are better Android phones out there but this is the only one on Vodafone at the moment.

quick update on my troubles.

Just spoke to customer services again, after looking at the range of handsets instore. But there isnt any i like so id like to buy my own handset.

However, the lady i spoke to was 100% sure the problem phone was the sim card, despite me saying the card work fine in my N95 and ive been throught this on a number of times to customer services and instore.

I am pretty much at my wits end now. Ive had enough of this phone and i want some thing done about it. Ether i contact Ofcom or Trading standards as i feel i am just going around in circles!

Now it wont let me update the thread on the vodafone forum :(:mad:

any one have any ideas :(

I've had mine since Thursday now, i'm not really having any problems with mine. My battery life seems fine coming from an N95.

The only time i've had any poor reception was whilst camping in the middle of nowhere Friday night.

To be honest aside from the plethora of irritating features (Why doesnt the screen come on when I've got a text message? Why can I not set it to act as a watch like my N95 8Gb did in standby? etc etc) the only major annoyance for me is the signal issue.

It can sit on my desk in the same location and over the course of an evening vary from full 3.5G to half normal signal to no signal at all. This is very annoying.

That was my main big gripe with mine unfortunately. If it wasn’t for this silly problem, id have kept the phone :(

I've still not removed the protective film you get when you buy it but noticed today despite being very careful with the phone this film is very badly scratched

That would have been the screen had I removed it

There are 9 billion different sellers of screen protectors on Ebay. Are they all much as a muchness or do some reduce the effectiveness of the touch screen etc?

Not quite true. The temporary plastic cover is much softer and thus much more prone to scratches. It simply isnt designed to withstand such things whilst the actual screen is.I took mine off for that very reason. The screen itself hasnt currently got a single mark on it.

Forget about screen protectors - you dont need one.

Surely for the sake of 99p for 6 or whatever it is its better safe than sorry?

I would agree, especially after reading others having scratches on their screens from who knows what. I went with a seller selling a 4 pack of protectors for about 1.99 or thereabouts with freepost. The protectors are clear and reasonably thick so go down without trapping bubbles. The only problem is that they are only slightly more durable than the initial protector and have managed to scratch mine. I'm considering getting a Martin Fields protector or trying more cheaper ones from the bay.

The cheaper ones are good for cutting out sqaures and covering the camera, to avoid scaratches from the cover.

Well I've got one of these on the way now. Rang up 3 to get my PAC code and they gave me the phone for nowt (on a £35 a month plan). So I'll have a play and decide whether to sell on and get something else or not :)

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/invisibleshield-full-body-protector-nokia-n97-p20585.htm

I'm using one of those, now whilst not the cheapest thing in the world it does come with stuff for the whole body sides and everything and does seem very hardy. Had mine on pretty much since it was new, noticed the original film got scratched in a matter of days this is still as good as the day I put it on.

Takes a bit of effort to put on but it seems more than capable of protecting the phone.

My gf has the invisible shield on her 5800, it was a pig to install but is very good.

I got a set of the screen protectors from the bay, 8 for a few quid. i actually prefer it with them on, the touchscreen fells better imo. Got them from Hong Hong for £4ish, thought i'd try them for that.:)

Screen is indeed VERY prone to scratches and I'll be buying a screen protector very soon, got 3 or 4 small scratches already even though I avoid putting it into the pocket with anything hard or sharp and generally being very careful ( compared to my last phone).

Some camera quality pictures in case anyone's interested :

Front camera, large room, dark conditions, obviously rubbish:

I'd think this phone would benefit A LOT from manual iso settings like the Omnia HD has, it usually sets the iso rating too high for pictures...
Anything close enough to be lighted up nicely with the flash seems decent.
The worst thing about this cam is night shots and inside shots...
I'll try to get more medium/long range pics because the only ones I have atm are of my family or of some drunk mates with very funny face expressions :p.
