8 Gb DDR2 booting issues with Vista

Hi Guys,

Wonder if you could help.

Friend recently got some second hand compy parts which work fine but the chap has recently swapped out XP for Vista 64-bit and slung in another four gig of RAM (taking it upto 8) and the computer won't reboot unless you reset the CMOS every time! Just wondering why this is?

putting in 8gig often means you have to put the volts up a bit.

I can't really see it being an issue with Vista although i could be wrong. I would say it's more likely the RAM & possibly as simple as upping the voltage a tad.

When I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB I needed to increase the Northbridge volts to keep it stable. Memory volts were fine at stock.

I moved from 4 to 8 with a p5 nt deluxe, had similar probs. In the end I went from 4 to 6, re booted, all was ok, then shut down, added the last stick and re booted again, and all was fine and has been ever since. not sure why it worked but it did

Bump up the NB a touch, just one increment or two max if one doesn't work.
If that dosen't work, try different combinations of ram to see if they are at fault. You also may need to increase the RAM voltage a tad.

Try one method at a time

When I upgraded to 8GB my system booted but was crazy slow and turned out I needed to update my bios so may be worth checking Abits website and updating....

Have you checked the QVL list for your mobo?
I had problems with my RAM after 9 months, eventually found out 4 sticks of my corsair was not compatible with my mobo.
