I went from X-Fi Xtreme Music to ASUS Xonar D2X recently.

Decent improvement over the X-Fi in terms of music quality, MASSIVE difference in terms of support in linux (which was a major factor in my upgrade).

It's probably a downgrade in games as its EAX5.0 emulation apparently isn't up to much, but I can't say I've tried that out.

I upgraded from Gamer to Xonar and then Xonar to EssenceSTX, the SQ improvement from the first was great, games sounded just as good on the Xonar too and the Essence just added to the SQ which was already good.

Not really much point in an XFi card these days for games.....very little (if any) difference.

Sorry to hijack this a bit but is there much difference between:

Asus Xonar D1 7.1

and

Asus Xonar D2X 7.1

I know one is pci and the other is pci-e but in terms of listening music (got Acoustic Energy Aego 2.1 speakers) and playing the odd game. Its mainly music quality im interested in.

Cheers,
Ash
