Quick question. Are the F3's the new higher density drives? e.g. single platter for the 500gb and dual platter for 1tb?

Just was formatting one of the new drives and a strange label came up...

so are these the drives to get now? Finding it really difficult to find good up to date reviews of hdds, any storage reviews seem to be SSDs nowadays.

Would appreciate any perf benchies Bin Boy!!!!

I've struggled to find any decent reviews too. But in theory they are (probably) the drives to get. With 500gb per platter they should be very fast indeed. Slap a couple in RAID 0 and they should scream :)

Yeah i will get benchies once have finished setting it up, so far have got the raid sorted and windows 7 ultimate x64 install and 1.81TB partitioned and the other two sammies partitioned just finishing of transfers from old drives to the new ones, then the test!

HD Tune Pro 3.50

That other writing on the label (posted above) was due to me cutting short the windows formatting, i used Acronis Disk Director instead.

Well have used them so far installing win7 it was quick and access files much faster than what i was on before ~( raid - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS - 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s ) and two ( WESTERN DIGITAL WD2500KS Caviar SE16 250GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB )

Had the drives transfering over 400gig of torrents from one of the 1TB F3's to the F3 striped array and had them face down on foam with no air around them and they weren't that warm i have to say and quiet when all four running out side the case.

Would they not be the same (read/writes) if they are both using 500GB platter size?
On paper the 1TB should be slightly faster as it has 32MB of cache, whereas the 500GB model has 16.

think ill treat myself to a couple of them
running a western digital caviar black and only scores 5.9 in winodws 7
Isn't that the highest score you can get with standard HD's; ie you can only break the 5.9 mark if you have an SSD?

How much faster will this drive be in moving files and gaming compaired to my current hard-drive, will I be hard pushed to see a difference or will the F3 blow it out the water?
