I'll be trying to get a nice upgrade when my Student Loan goes through, and I've come up with the following:
Sony AD-7240S 24x
AMD Phenom II X2 545 3GHz
Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Mid Tower Case
ASUS M4A78 770 Socket AM2+
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 HyperX Memory
PowerColor HD 4850 PCS 1GB GDDR3 DVI VGA HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
Which comes to £295 on a competitor.
I currently have:
C2D E4300 @ 2.4Ghz
MSI P6N SLI-Fi
Geforce 8600GT
Antec Sonata III + EA500
4GB Crucial Value 667Mhz
1 WD 250GB 7200 RPM
1 WD 320GB 7200 RPM
Samsung Sata DVD RW
I have an Acer 22" Monitor at 1680x1050 and I'd be looking to playing games and doing the old Uni Work on it. Although I do have a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop, so I'd rather get the best gaming performance I can over anything else.
The reason I'm ditching the Sonata III is the front Panel is Broken (Stupid accident) and I think the earthwatts should be ok (it's just over 2 years old). The Ram I'm ditching as I'd like to get some higher speed ram to better match the new processor.
I'd love it if I could upgrade my Processor and not have to go the new motherboard route, but A) My Motherboard won't support any 45nm CPU's (who would've thought a 2 year old 80 quid motherboard would be so crap at upgrading) and B) It only supports 1GB Dimms (apparently).
If anybody has any better ideas, please share them, as I've researched a fair bit and this is what I've come up with.
Maximum Budget is £350.
Thanks.
