I've signed up for virgin media for our student house. What I thought I'd be paying was £19.50 a month for 10mb Internet and the basic TV package...

But they sent me out the contract for me to sign with a list of pricing on it, Is this suppose to be easy to work out? Because I've totalled up everything and apparently it's -£30 a month.... Surely they aren't paying me for it? :p

Anyone have any idea how to work out this?

The list is:

Telephone line rental £11
Phone, BBand L & TV disco £11CR
Prem Bar
Free Voicemail
M+(Starter) £5.50
Broadband size: L £25.00
Wireless Broadband
Quickstart Telephone
Quick Start TV
Quickstart BB
Free Installation £15CR
Quickstart 7-9am Delivery £25
2 Months triple off £19.50CR
Special one off discount £20CR
Quickstart 12 Month Contract £30CR

Eh? :p

well according to the website its £15pm for the 10mb broadband for 3 months then £20 therafter. TV M+ is £5.50. So after the first 3 months you should be paying £25.50. That assumes you dont have a virgin phone line which would be another £11pm on top.

I swear they deliberatly make it so confusing. Infact theres still outstanding bills from my student flat and they haven't tracked me down two years later! Take that virgin!

If they do put a phone line in then you'll see its an extra £11pm marked with an asterisk under the main prices. They're a sneaky lot. If you're in flats then see if theres any other students moving in and split the internet bill assuming they give you a wireless router. Thats what we did which meant we could get the biggest internet package for half the price.

over the year, you'll be paying £287 including the installation and line rental.

Telephone line rental £11 - charged monthly
M+(Starter) £5.50 - charged monthly
Broadband size: L £25.00 - charged monthly
Phone, BBand L & TV disco £11CR - deducted monthly
TOTAL MONTHLY = £30.50 YEARLY=£366

2 Months triple off £19.50CR - This will only appear this month and next month
Special one off discount £20CR - this is a one off for buying online
=£59 discount this year

Installation charges - not entirely sure what's happening here, the £15 credit is against the £25 priority quickstart installation cost, and I'm guessing the £30 credit is supposed to be becasue you would have got £30 off the engineer installation if you had needed it, but since you diddn't need it you get the credit for free.

Quickstart 7-9am Delivery £25
Free Installation £15CR
Quickstart 12 Month Contract £30CR

=£20 credit this month

so £366 - £59 - £20 = £287

£287/12 = £23.92 per month - this is the figure you should use when dividing up how much your housemates should contribute.

so I am paying £30.50 a month sort of?

so is it £19.50 + £11 for the first 2 month..

then even more after ?

or can I just make it out as £30.50 shared by my flatmates per month?
