when i overclock

I overclocked my CPU from 2.5 to around 2.8 (its quad core) but got a lower score all the benchmarking programmes? any ideas why, i used MB's own overclocking thingy in bios that i understand changes voltages etc for you. maybe i am wrong? i dunno? please help

When you moved the cpu up to 2.8 you moved other speeds down, most likely being ram speed&timings and northbridge timings. You then ran a benchmark which cares more about memory bandwidth than cpu. Run a cpu only benchmark (superpi is close enough) and it'll be quicker.

The next iteration will be better if you learn more first, otherwise the second attempt will go much the same as the first.

That is the absolute best I can offer given you've listed neither components nor bios settings. Good luck
