I'm fed up of taking my dongle with me everywhere and was looking to buy an internal card for my M1530.

Is the Dell 5520 the one that I need? (i'm with vodafone not that I think that would make a difference).

your laptop will need to have an available mini-PCIe slot and both the WWAN antenna And the actual sim-card receptacle. check you've got 'em before splashing out.

although, it's likely that you will have the slot if you've got the antenna and vice-versa.

I know I have the sim-card slot, I also have the spare mini-PCIe slot. I assume the antenna is the wire that should be by the PCIe slot?
Yes you should have a pair of grey & black antenna cables going towards the WWAN slot, they're identical to the ones that you'll see connected to your wifi card.

Just to let you know the 5520 (rebadged novatel expedite EU870D) is useless with Windows 7 x64 if you are planning on (or are) using that. I've replaced mine with a sierra wireless MC8775 until there is native win 7 driver support.
