Intel X-25M SSDs looks great in benchmarks apart from low sequential write speed.

What exactly is sequential write speed, in real world performance?

Anand says sequential write speed is "very important" but "only in very specific cases" will it hurt you, but doesn't give examples. What exactly are those cases?

OK, according to some people sequential writing would be installing programs, like installing games. However, according to others, installing games would involve more random writes that sequential. Does anyone know?

Also, I have it on good authority that installing games is definitely faster on an SSD (Intel G2) than on a Velociraptor - can anyone confirm this?

Thanks.

Are you regularly writing single large files? That's where sequential will come into it's own. But generally for normal use it's not very important as people don't tend to do a lot of this compared with smaller reads/writes.

To be fair, installing games will probably be no different on SSD or VRaptor. You're more than likely going to be limited by the medium your installing from, e.g. DVD.

Running games you should see an improvement, but dependent on the game your mileage may vary.
