Looks like he has blown up his motherboard and probably melted his CPU. His system is over 6 years old. He needs the following stuff.

He's not bothered about a decent graphics card. Only uses it for the net and music and films really. Quiet, stable and longlasting is better

Motherboard
Processor
RAM
Graphics card
Case
Power
Soundcard - (he has an audigy 1 atm to output to amp and speakers, not sure what onboard sound is up to)
Hard drives would need a converter from IDE > SATA (how much are these?)

This tbh. Hard drive and DVD drive are both sata, so the IDE port will be free for im to hook up 1 or 2 of his old IDE drives ;)

Not unless he will be using the system for sound production or have a gazillion speakers.

Whats the point in everyone getting Xonar DX2 cards to use with their 5.1 pc speaker setups then?

He uses a technics amp, wharfdale speakers and a sub (all cost around £200)

Thanks for spec - Is onbaord going to be better than the Geforce 9500GT 512Mb Video Card? (not that he will really use it much anyway)

1 - Beats me tbh. More money than sence.

2 - For the use of the system, i doubt you would even notice the difference with the graphics power. :)
