I'll be in Portsmouth from 10am on Saturday morning.

Was hoping someone could recommend a nice restaurants to go for a nice breakfast, and also a nice lunch.

And also what to do inbetween breakfast and lunch.

Are there any tourist spots?
Any must-sees?
What the best area for decent shops? or outlets?
any lovely old pubs?

etc etc

If I could work out a plan from 10am till about 4pm that would be great.

Thank you
:D

To be honest mate, goto Gunwharf Quays. It has plenty of restaurants to cater for a variety of pallets.

It is also the major place to go in terms of shopping and entertainment in Portsmouth these days. It is also right next door to the Dockyard where if you are interested you can go and see the Mary Rose, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, etc.

Failing that you could venture off to the seafront in Southsea where you have the D-Day museum and the Aquarium (which is a bit cheese unless you are 10, iirc).

This. Plenty of places to eat and the Spinnaker Tower is there as well which is well worth going up if the weather is clear. If you fancy a wander to Southsea then it's only a 10 min walk from Gunwharf to Southsea seafront along the Milennium Promenade (it's just a pavement which follows the coastline to Southsea..nothing fancy!)

You start off at the Park(or Peak)Tavern, round the corner to the Albany, after that the Irish pub unber the brdge next to the train station, next go to the town centre and to the Mucky Duck(the White Swan) then it used to start falling apart from there :p

here you go...

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sou...6567,-1.097174&spn=0.030387,0.076046&t=h&z=14

(A) Firstly go to clarence pier (short walk from town centre, or plenty of parking at the pier if you are driving and want to leave your car for the day) and watch the hovercraft leave for the isle of wight.

(B) Then walk along the seafront (the line google has drawn is wrong) to Portsmouth old town. You walk along the top of the fortifications and there's a nice beach at the bottom of the wall.

(C) Then have lunch in the Still and West pub, best fish and chips ever (eat outside) or go upstairs for nice restaurant food in a conservatory overlooking the harbour entrance. Can sit there for hours watching ships coming in.

if you zoom in to google you will see there is a footpath between C and D thats right on the waters edge and follows the harbour round - take this to Gunwharf, not the road.

(D) Then go to Gunwharf - it's a bit commercial so unless you want to shop, don't stick around. However, do go up the spinnaker tower if it's a nice day, amazing views over all the naval stuff from the top and not expensive.

(E) Then, if you have any time left head to the historic dockyard and wander round there. You don't need to pay to go in and have a look round.

If anyone tells you to go elssewhere then they've never seen any of Portsmouth, it's a great city with lots of history, all it requires is for you to drag yourself away from Gunwharf Quays, something most people seem to find impossible!

Ah - any recommendations for breakfast!? The closer to a station the better.

Maccy, cheers for the offer, but unless you were some hot nympho it's not really worth running away from the girlfriend and leaving her stranded in Portsmouth to see you.
