If your motherboard supports crossfire, I'd personally go with the 5850 atm.

With the 5770's being £125 each, they don't offer enough over the 5850 for £40-£50 more. You also have the advantage of adding another 5850 at a later date if you felt you needed higher fps in games, whereas if you'd gone the 2x5770 route you would then need to sell them at a loss and buy a newer card, like the 5970, etc...

Or buy a single 5770 now and another later on when the price drops.

I was able to find sometime to have a bit more of a play today. Played Shattered Horizon at 1680 x 1050 with everything on with no problems. I was expecting to have to turn a few things down, but there was no need.

Is anyone else with a HD 5770 card having issues with tessellation when running the Heaven Demo v1.0 for DX11 or is it just me?

If i turn on tessellation , i get atifacts. Noticeably, the first screen on the brickwork at the bottom of the windmill

Everything else runs fine.

Using Win7 x64. Tried re-installing the catalyst supplied with card, and any other version i can find, but still the same.

I have ordered a pair of asus 5770s just to try out crossfire, voltage tweak and dip my toe in the DX11 water - if ATI plan on releasing a new GPU in Q42010 then happy to have missed the boat this time. Can always pick up a third card at somepoint as they are that efficient; a good opportunity to see how well dx11 handles multi gpu too :)

think it depends on game and drivers - single 5770 comparible with 4870 in most respects (apart from power consumption) so 4870x2 is likely more powerful at the moment but as drivers mature it should outperform - ofcourse you are going to be drawing a lot less power from the wall too

Im thinking more on the lines of crossfire i could get 180 for my 4870 x2 buy one this month and get another 1 at xmas time. Would 2 5770s be the same as a 4870x2 in peformance? or faster? will new drivers really improve this card by much? I doubt a single 5770 would beat a 4870x2 Some of these reviews just dont make 2 in crossfire look good. Is that down to drivers? or that a 4870 x2 is better than 2 5770s

I have had a look at some reviews on 2 5770s in crossfire from guru 3d dated 13 oct 2009 im guessing they are the beta drivers. And im actually really impressed and im proberly going to sell my 4870 x2 buy 1 5770 and add another at xmas with the money left over and some money off the misses. I cannot see the point in a single 5770 when 2 of these just seem amazing for the price. 1 thing i dont understand though is how a single 5770 is not beating a single 4870 and a single geforce 260 in benchmarks is that down to the memory bandwidth and immature drivers?

er dont buy the 4770 - and would keep the 4870x2 unless you are desperate to play dx11 games

Im not not seeing the point in a keeping my 4870 x2 when i can cough up for 2 and have less power consumption better fps in games and graphics cards ready for future dx11 games next year. Just curious about most of the reviews. Do they show the min fps or average?

I get almost 16K in Vantage with the i7 [email protected] and the GFX cards with mild overclock 900/1300 with W7 64Bit :) If thats any help. I play everything at 1650x1080 at the mo with everything on max and everything plays superbly. Crysis Warhead on enthusiast isnt a problem and runs very very well.

So what's the general consensus on these then? As previously stated i am looking at this or the 5850 but seeing as i only game at 1680x1050 i think the latter might be a bit OTT. Has anyone encountered any games where they've had to dial down the settings? I'd like to get one as they're cheaper than a 5850 and actually available but don't want to be left disappointed.
