Why pants?

Had some guys from the UK come over here for a bit and I noticed them calling things they didn't like 'pants'. Makes no sense to me Is this just British slang basically?

pants in the uk = underwear

we call our "pants" (if your the same as the US in SA) Trousers

For me "pants" in slang = N.E.R.D! for rubbish or underpants Pants to me are "kecks" or "trousers"!

So retarded people who don't like swearing use it instead of "Thats ****" or "Thats *******s" etc.
