Seat Leon Cupra R - Anyone got one? **UPDATE - OPINIONS ON A CAR**

Looking to change my car as only live 2 miles from work now so don't need boring diseaseal and can cycle in. Want something with a bit of go, but despite having 5 years protected NCB getting quoted £1100 for scoobs and £1500 for Evo's, and refuse to pay it!

Seat is coming in at £700 insurance and looks ok - the sort of thing you wouldn't be embarrased turning up places but can still have some fun, and less likely to get jacked driving round brum :o.

Ones like these:

Anyone got/had one? Any common faults to look out for? Massively expensive to run? Provided stick to remap, filter and exhaust should be pretty reliable right?

Ta!

I've had one for the last 4 years, £700 sounds like a lot for insurance, mine is around £500.

Common faults are rear door seals, cam-chain tensioner (above 80,000 miles), the dual-fan units failing, and the pneumatic central locking playing up.

They don't cost huge amounts to run, front brake consumables are extortionaltey high for a car of its class, but nothing unusual if you are used to large 4-pot calipers and large discs. Tyres are between £110 and £150 a corner for decent rubber, and servicing isn't too expensive on the whole. Fuel consumption completely depends on how you drive it.

Cheers dude!

Insurance is a quick quote through confused, Civic type R was £500 or so, so with some telephone work I'm sure I could get cost down.

Do they torque steer badly? Prob not a great comparison as I realise chassis design has moved on since the 80's, but I had an Escort RS Turbo that was over 200 hp and that was a real PITA in anything other than perfect conditions!

Are you still keeping the Sierra?

Sierra went back in May :( . Been trundling round in a 115 hp diesel mondeo and miss having some acceleration! :o

Recession has not been kind to the recruitment industry and I simply couldn't afford to keep fixing it when it broke as I was earning very little commission. Last time I took it out for a spirited drive the turbo failed and cost near on £900 to fix and that was the last straw - it averaged at costing just over £600 per month in the time I had it, crazy money! Granted I had tuned it hard and drove it hard but you have to draw the line somewhere. Sold just at the right time, as it would be work £2k less today.

Unfortunately Ferrari power usually comes with Ferrari running costs.

I have an LCR and my insurance for this year was £780 with 4 years NCB.
I am 21 which also makes that price fairly good!

I am with Elephant, so give them and Bell a go. Never had any issues with them :)

As above, fuel can be pretty varied. I have had 40mpg out of it and then 20mpg. Got to be careful with it!

Tyres for me are working out roughly £120. I bought 4x Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's for around £420 last time round. I have bought pairs for £300 quid though.
Oh and don't buy P-Zero's. They are rubbish!

One though: Do the 55 plate LCRs get hit with the mega tax (£400)?

I've got a 1.9 TDi FR Leon but its still a Leon so I thought I'd chip in and say they are great cars :) Both of them you posted up look nice.

Love mine to bits, only issue I've got is leaky door sils in the front which I will silicone as soon as the weather picks up.

I still wish I'd gone for a Cupra but do a fair bit of driving was really wanted better mpg.

Ive got a cupra R, its got 115,000 miles on it and its still pulls like a train, and runs like a dream.

The fuel economy can be excellent (for a car of its power) when driven sensibly.

Servicing costs are no more then your average car and I paid £100 each corner for Goodyear eagle F1s.

All in all Id say you get a lot for your money with them and they dont cost a bomb to run!

at 225bhp theyre not slow either!

I can honnestly say I couldnt really ask for a better car for me at the moment!

PS. No I dont think they will be affected by the mega tax (£400), I pay £210 per year.

I had one and thought it was great. Keep away from the turbo and the fuel economy is in the high 30's without too much trouble. I had a go MAF sensor go on mine during the 6 months I owned it but that was all.

Very highly recommended!

What would be the main, non-VAG and not neccesarily better, competitors to the LCR? At a similar price point etc...

Civic Type R I guess, Old Focus RS, Focus ST, Mazda 3 MPS, Megane 225, 147 GTA.

I'll be looking for a Cupra R later in the year. Really want a red one

Not for me that one, he's changed the stock filter, why?

Something is going on with the air feed in the engine bay.

Its too much money.

I thought it was part of the Oettinger conversion . It is expensive but the guy might well be starting high. If it was £7500 ish I'd have been round there like a shot.
