Currently using in a spare rig a Sapphire 4830 with an 8300 quad, card is clocked 700/999, is it worth hoofing that one out and buying the XFX card for £85?

XFX 5750 £85 this week only?

In the sub £100 price point, I think the 5750 is a very good buy. It should serve you fairly well at 1920*1200. Certainly the jump from the 4830 will be huge.

edit - misread the model number as 43-series  sry

Well, working on the 4870 and 5770 trading blows, I'd expect the 4850 and 5750 to trade blows the same, however I doubt there is going to be a vast improvement over the 4830 if this is true.

Just purchased 2 Sapphire 5750's for crossfire. According to Guru3D, they equal 5850 performance and even match the 5870 in a few benchmarks. These cards also tend to overclock by a good 20% on GPU/RAM, so £170 for ~5870 performance seems very likely.

Will post benches when I get them on Monday.

I think their will be an improvement. But i would try and get the 1gig ram cards for gaming at that res, if u can stretch your budget get the 5770.
Have 5750 in crossfire my self. And i went from CF 4850 512 meg cards to the 1gig 5750 in CF and their was a big jump in performance for me.

A friend has a brand new boxed BFG OC 9800GT 1 gig card he wants £70 for it, he was going to SLI his current system but now needs the cash. For £70 is the 9800GT worth it, it's the 1 gig Overclocked BFG model?

After i sold my CF 4850 i got a 9800GT 512meg card for 2 weeks. And it was a big big step down for me. I think for £70 for that card even though it is the 1gig card is a bit to much to be asking for it.

Edit: ok its new so that makes it worth some more. I think i would keep what you have until u get the money to get a 5770 or something more powerfull.

There is a 4870 on T.W.O for £86, 1 gig jobbie, any better?
4870 is about the same as a 5770 so it will be slightly faster than a 5750. However, you lose out on a lot of very nice features so I would stick with the 5750 or stretch to a 5770. Check out this Guru3D review to see what 5750's and 5770's in sigle and crossfire can do.

What amazes me is how two stock 5750's in crossfire @ £170 frequently beat a single 5870 which cost £320. 5750's will also overclock massively (percentage wise probably more than any other 5xxx series card) making them even faster.

I guess two PCI-E lanes talking to two GPU's and two 128bit memory busses is more efficient than one PIC-E lane talking to a single double-size GPU running a 256bit bus. This says a lot for CrossfireX, with huge scaling for almost every game.

Has anyone managed to get the XFX 5750 from T.W.O. yet?

I ordered one on Wednesday when the web site said 10+ in stock, but it still hasn't shipped. Sent a web note on Friday and was told it was out of stock, but the web page still says 10+ in stock.

Im still un convinced about 57xx being better then 48xx

Read around a lot
I guess it depends what you require from a GC. For ultimate (current) gaming performance the 4890 will win. If you need to connect 3 monitors (or 2 monitors plus HDTV), intend to take advantage of DX11 effects, or just save on power bills the 57xx series will be better.

Personally, my PSU will not allow for a 4870 or 4890 crossfire setup, but the 57xx's will work fine. You also need to take "other component" costs into account when deciding on which is the most appropriate solution. Not all shoes fit all.

really, how much improvement was it?

Well the 2 X 5770 bests the 5850\5870 though the owners of these cards don't like to admit it. I had doubts about crossfire I admit but not now. So far it has been hassle free and so good that I have re-installed Crysis and can now play it on high @ 1920 X 1080 and it is silky smooth. My other favourite game is Fallout 3 and it is maxxed out and looks fantastic. I think there is more to come from crossfire, performance wise, and I believe Ati are in the process of producing gaming profiles which are due soon.:D

Also I feel I should mention the Sapphire Vapor-X 5770 are fantastic cards and a great buy just now. They are very cool and quiet and I havn't even felt the need to OC them, criminal I know.:D

Perhaps I should also mention the op thread and say that the 5750 are not that far behind the 5770 but that TWO offer is only 512mb and I wouldn't advise them. Bizarrely the Sapphire Vapor-X 5750 are more expensive than the 5770.
