This might be my last SETI tiffy for a while, as I've switched over to folding for the time being. I'll still be doing the SETI news posts though :)

Thanks for the news matey - and nice tiffy by the way :)

5 new members - awesome - welcome to the finest and most powerful UK DC team, may your stay be a long one :D

I had noticed the new joiners as I keep checking my rear view mirrors - will do it more often now :D

Yes - finally break the 300k mark for one week. Not bad for just three computers.

That is impressive, what gpu's are you running.

Well......

I just finished putting my rig back together after lapping my CPU & H20 Cooler.

What a difference.........

Q6600 CPU now running @ sub 60c under full load @ 3.6ghz a drop of over 10c.

Wish I had done it sooner :D

Good stuff mate, are you going to try for 3.825Ghz.

Dont leave your crunchers off for long though as I will show no mercy in the coming months ;)

By the way, has anyone noticed that the teams foundership has been challenged by StandardbredHorse

One more thing - Tiffy Time :D

well, i had a weekend of overclocking and tinkering with the stability of my machines....
the strangest being the Zotac 9300 mITx based system that I have. The graphics chip shares main system memory that you set at bios, so when that was set at 512 MB (to get cuda WUs), the system would crash after about 2 -3 hours worth of computing. Checked temps, etc, all seemed pretty normal. Had an idea that maybe it was memory, so downloaded memtest386+, ran, fine... then realised that I had to take away the memory that was being shared to check that, so ran it again, fine. Decided to boot into windows with the card sharing only 16 MB memory to see what happens. Lo and behold, its running cuda WUs, its stable for over a day now. Not sure whether its crunching slower or not, guess, I'll have to trade stability for speed here....

anyway, a tiffy is a tiffy :)

Think it's only a problem if Spie doesn't get/respond to the challenge. Reading the thread its something like if no response from current founder in 2 months team defaults to the challenger

Same name posting in boinc forum about a deleted team. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5493

hmmmm coincidence?

I've recently read through all of that thread.

For those that haven't read it: To summarise, StandardbredHorse said that the SETI (and Einstein) team he was on has basically been destroyed: the foundership was taken over, with the new founder then throwing all members off the team and finally renaming the team and not allowing new members to join. (Since then, the team has been recreated from scratch - with a different ID, of course - but the member movements page is interesting.) I believe he's citing part of the BOINC software code as the area of concern, with a loophole allowing people to get around built-in safeguards that supposedly prevent teams with credit from being deleted.

He seems genuinely concerned about the whole issue and appears to be doing everything possible to restore the team. However, there's no mention of his joining our team or trying to take over foundership, which I find perplexing.

As a side, he joined OcUK on the 27th Feb - two days after his old team disappeared from the stats - and asked for team foundership change a day later. Very odd.

Lastly, in that thread, one of his later posts contains this:

I don't want to swing the mood negative, but in the meantime, if you are on a team, make sure to spread the word to your founders/admins, because as it stands now, anyone can get their team jacked via this backdoor method. I hope not only to get our team fixed, but hope it's a loophole that BOINC admin can get closed--even when/if we get our team back, we believe in the spirit of *fair* competition, and to see another team taken out in a similar way would be just as unacceptable to me.

Hopefully he's just done this in order to accrue evidence that teams can be taken over far too easily - and that nothing else will occur afterwards. However, I am keeping an eye on things.

EDIT: Have sent StandardbredHorse a PM regarding his taking on our team foundership. I'll post any response I get on here.
