Dark circles under eyes

At the risk of revealing an unwanted feminine side, I'm going to have to ask for cosmetic/skincare advice on a public forum. Never mind, needs must!

I was wondering if anyone had come across anything that actually worked at hiding/removing dark circles under your eyes? I always have them, although they're worse when I'm tired or hung over, even when I'm fresh as a daisy they're still quite noticeable.

I always get asked if I've been in a fight, am on drugs or if I'm wearing makeup - none of these things are the case and not the image I want to give out!

So does anything actually work, I've tried most of the stuff you can get in the supermarket, ensuring it says "FOR MEN" on it, but no joy.

It could be :

Genetic - some people just do have them.

Lack of sleep.

Lack of water. Aim for one and a half litres per day. (Doesn't include juice / tea / coffee)

An overgrowth of yeasts in the body (Candida).

Underfunctioning liver.

Food sensitivity or allergy.

Remember the skin around the eye is approimately one quarter the thickness than compared to other areas of the face or body. It could also point to a circulatory or lymphatic related problem.

All the best. :)

Thanks for the sensible post :)

Genetics - parent's and sibling dont seem to suffer, so dont think that's it

I get a good 8 hours sleep a night, and I'm not tired on the whole

Also dont think I'm dehydrated, I do drink a lot of coffee but I drink a fair bit of water/squash and things too.

Yeast....ew, but worth a quick google

Liver - I'm guessing I'd be having other problems if that was the case

Allergy - dont think so, it would probably come and go if it was that, but I've had it for as long as I can remember and its pretty constant

Spend some time in the sun and get a tan. Problem solved. :) Then again it could just be genetic or a dietary issue or just plain lack of sleep.

Wear make up if it bothers you that much ;)

Spent a week in the Gambian sun in Jan, if anything they looked worse afterwards!

Makeup is crossing an uncomfortable boundry for me....

I only skimmed that but it seemed to be entirely a thread of calling the OP a homo?

Seriously, I'm not the "metrosexual" type, I'm just fed up of everyone assuming I'm a make up wearing, violent druggy

I would say get more sleep but being the IT type, you've prolly spent the last 10 years going to bed @ 4am.

Try a dose of the sunbeds to bring the rest of your complexion into line with your black rings*.
I also heard that consumption of licopene (a tomato extract of sorts) will help to naturally darken your skin complexion. Can't say I've tried it myself.

Actually I'm not an all night nerd - I work in IT 9-5 so spend more of my personal time socialising or with a book than I do in front of the lapop, pretty sensible sleeping patterns too!

Then the 2 sensible options/possibilities are nutrition/diet and genetics I'd have thought. When did it first start?

As long as I can remember really - although looking back at old photos, it's not noticeable when I was really young, so puberty might be a reasonable guess.

i read somewhere (sure it was at the doctors) that tea and coffee does count towards your daily water intake.

Could also be Anaemia.

Apparently you need products that say "immediate effect" otherwise they're just not strong enough to work well.

I use L'oreal Collagen Eye Filler. Doesn't do a fantastic job but it's quite a thick cream that's slightly shiny so it helps brighten them up a bit.

I spent about £30 on eyliplex because the reviews said it was great....it wasn't. :(

I think mine must be genetic as my sisters and mum have it although not as bad as me so it's probably also anaemia and lack of sleep :p

oh..another tip I read was cold tea bags but I'm yet to try this theory lol

I have them too, but since ive been going to the gym and sorting my diet out with plenty of veg, vitamins, constantly hydrated etc it is starting to improve.

Sleep is always an issue though for me, and when I do get a few good nights it does improve.

My best advice would be to improve your diet and drink LOTS of water, get 8 hours sleep ATLEAST a night (dont stay up late on the PC or watching TV and then get 8 hours, it wont work), dont spend long periods on the PC / watching TV and get out in the sun when ever you can.

One more thing i've found helping, dont give a **** what others think of you :)
