New fan help please (replace stock cpu fan)

Hey,

I've got my athlon ii unlocked as a phenom ii at 3.4Ghz (up from 2.9)

The stock cooling seems to be doing the job for now but its idle at 42 and almost 60 at full load. I'd like to bring that down by about 5- 10 degrees and push it up to 3.6 Ghz hopefully.

I need a custom fan for around £20

Also will I need to clean the cpu before I install the new fan?

And yes, youll need to clean the cpu surface before mounting the new cooler, the paste on the new cooler will be a good job, to clean the old paste of your cpu, i suggest isopropyl alcohol, can be bought cheaply in a chemists.

I had the fan on my old x2 and it was great. Sold it with the old cpu. Will this be ok for am3?

I think the 64 one you originally suggested does support am3 too as I've checked a few other sites. I'm inclined to get that one as it seems better than the freezer pro 7?
