I guess he's picked the camera up.

If you forget to lift it by the lens the camera is designed to rip like that so you don't damage the lens.

as said on TP the guy fell the lens hit the ground then he went down on top. the leverage caused by the long lens ripped the mount out.

I was going to say, looks like it's been dropped. My 400D got knocked over by somebody while on a tripod and landed flat on the lens. Fortunately it was just the kit lens and all that broke was the plastic threading that locks the lens into place. If anything the lens shielded the camera from the impact :p.
