micsoft word document corrupt

im trying to recover a word document for a friend
she had problems saving it and when did did it saved like this and when opened its all full of symbols
any ideas how to get it back?

What version of windows do you have? There might be a 'restore previous version' option

Are you trying to open it with the same version of Word that it was saved with?

I get that problem trying to open a Word 2007 file in 2003, for example.

go to open and then choose open and repair

try opening it with open office
