Are you using Eyefinity for multiple displays? Cause I don't think you really need more than a 5970 at the moment for gaming at a single monitor...

As for Crossfiring, the speed will follow the speed of the slowest GPU, so even if you can overclock the 5870 to high, it wouldn't make any difference if the GPU in your 5970 can't keep up. And since the 5870 GPUs in 5970 are downclocked, I think any 5870 would do...but ideally a brand that offer good warranty and RMA support.

Also, what the rest the spec of the rest of your PC?

Ah for Crysis I can understand. I've seen a review on Custom PC that for Crysis at dx10, very high, 1920x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF, the 5970 frame rate is min 23fps, average 42fps.

But I honestly it's don't think it's worth investing another £300 just so you can get higher frame rate for ONE game. HD5970 in Battlefield Bad Company 2 in dx11, 1920x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF setting get like min 56fps, average 116fps...

Also games are slowly heading toward the direction increase use of tessellations, which is one area that the ATI5000 series is weak at. I say you should save your money for now, and move onto next gen graphic (if they are better) when they are out.

If those figures are correct, then I don't really see the need of adding another 5870, as with min 35fps, you shouldn't really notice slow down (not enough to actually affect your gameplay anyway) unless you pay really close attention to it, which doesn't happen if you are more focus on the gaming itself...

Really in this day and age (especially with a modern system like yours AND 6GB Ram) there is no reason not to use a 64 bit OS.

Just a question what happens to the ram in 32 bit Windows as it can only see ~ 3.25 gig of system ram and he will have a total 3 gig of GDDR ram on his GPU's if he grabs a 5870?

would that mean windows would only see 250MB of DDR ram?

In that case wouldn't the addition of another card actually slow down his gaming as he would be lacking ram?

AFAIK a 32bit OS will only see a max. of 4GB of memory, so considering a 5970 has 2GB of memory and a 5870 1GB of memory, the OS wil only be able to see 1GB of the available 6GB of installed system memory. It seems such a waste to have 5GB of RAM sitting there doing nothing.
