Can anybody recommend me a decent Porsche indi, preferably between the Reading and Oxford area? I am after a place who will talk to me technically rather than fob me off with gumpf, allow me to watch my car being worked on if i wish, and generally be staffed by proper mechanics rather than simply technicians, who will actually fix things rather than move to replacement straight away.

I think i was told of one before, but as yet i have not had any issues and as such have not needed to use one and have forgotten.

Many thanks in advance :)

Cool,

If you have used their service centre, are they the type of people who will let you linger around in the workshop while the work is done, so that you can see and learn what is happening?

Check the parts they say they are replacing.

Drive a bit further and use JZM or Jaz in Wembley who i use, if you want the best however, drive a bit further still and go where my my brother goes , Mike at sports and classic.

Anyway back to the bar b q .... me burgers are burning!

They serviced my Boxster and although I didn't hang around while they did it (I was too busy enjoying copious cups of tea in the showroom) I would think they'd be ok with it as I did pop down a few times and have a nose around what they were up to.

If you have a look on the Porsche forums and Pistonheads you'll find that RSJ are always very highly regarded, they're unlikely to try and rip you off by pretending they've changed something when they haven't, it's just not worth their reputation.

I cant be arsed going into it again but i had a drama with them a couple years ago with rear discs when i had my 997.

But each to their own if you found them good, then good.

It depends what you want doing really. I can recommend JZM and Fearnsport who both worked on my GT3. Both will allow you to nose around and chat with them as they work on your car, Fearnsport at Silverstone being very good for that.

From what I've read on various forums I'm not alone in receiving good service. You however may not but that certainly seems to be an isolated incident from what I can see.

What sort of savings do these guys offer over the rather expensive prospect of servicing something like a 996 C4 at a Porsche dealer?

Thanks for the advice, Mark, Housey, Rotty and all :) Appreciated.

Fox, my experience of OPC is that their servicing is very reasonable, and as such i would always use them. They are willing to barter heavily away from the OPC lists to a point where an indi isnt much cheaper at all. It is repairs and other work which i wouldn't bother with, as their hourly rate is ludicrous, as are their parts prices and general "main dealer" methods of resolution to problems.
