Dall Studio 17 CPU

Are the cpu,s interchangeable on the Dell Studio 17 Series laptops. I'm looking at one that's currently got a Pentium Dual Core T4400 but can I replace that with an Intel 2 Core or Core i5 or i7??

You can put any c2d in there. i5 and i7 are different slots so wont fit.

I would suggest a P series as they runcooler.

Also its a PITA to install a cpu on the studio as you have to take the whole laptop apart to get to it.
If you need a hand give me a shout, have done a few studios. Also have a P9500 for sale, if you are interested I can list it in the members market

Ive always thought studio was very easy to swap the cpu and memory just be very careful.

They used to be (the old design with 16:10 screens). since the studio 1555 & 1745 onwards it now requires you to take the motherboard out to get to cpu. Ram/HD's/WAN cards are all still easy.

I was going to say its easy but didn't realise they had a design change. Did they fix the terrible cooling with the update?

Not on the studio 1555. The 1745/49 is better but the 1747 is terrible and throttles becuase of the i7's high wattage

The 1747 throttling has been reduced with the current A08 BIOS and optional 130w power adaptor
