Ive got 4890 CF at the moment and im itching to upgrade but im not sure if its worth it at the moment.performance upgrade to price.
So is it worth me upgrading to a 5870,5870 2gb version 5970 , 480 or maybe wait until the next gen cards come out.(any dates on these yet)
Is there much difference in the 5870 1gb and 2gb cards what do you gain?
Does the 5870 beat 4890CF?
So thanks for your help as looking at G/cards all day is doing my head in.

From a financial or performance point of view there is no need to upgrade from 4890CF.One of these cards packs a good punch so two of them are great. They'll handle any game you throw at it.

If you want to upgrade that badly then make it a 5970 or 5870CF because 4890CF is better than a single 5870 so you'd only be downgrading.

Thx for posting op! Saves me asking the same question. Only issue I'm facing is that I have 2 Samsung 2343 staring at me... and I want to buy a 3rd... I think you see where this is going. :p

Maybe I will hold on and stop being a child! Anyone know when a refresh would be most likely?

In my opinion, the utilization dx11 for games at the moment are still very light use and not yet really offer 'huge' graphic quality boost over dx10. Since you got CF4890, I would say stick with them, and give time for games to employ heavier use of dx11 features (mainly tessellations), then you could consider whether to upgrade to 2nd gen dx11 cards or not.

one 4890 alone is enough, let alone two.....id keep what you have right now,DX11 imo isnt a good enough reason to upgrade to a 5000 series card, when you compare DX11/10 there realy isnt much diffrence.

Completely untrue. The only 4xxx card the 4890 has better idle power consumption than is the 4870. Two 4890s in Crossfire is going to be pulling 120W or more just whilst idle!

No the 4890 actually doesn't have a greater idle power consumption than the 4870
