Boing Boing writes about one of Kyoto Uni's dorms that is almost 100 years old but still functioning. I found it interesting how the dorm was started up to be self running and residents chose who came on board.

Kind of shocking condition but I bet some of the Nintendo stuff in the games room is worth a bit now, they should eBay that lot and use the funds to do the place up!

Kyoto university has the last old-fashioned wooden dorm, a decrepit structure where Ethernet cable strung on the decrepit supports overhang robotics students working on the shattered floor.

I like this comment

"Building robots in a decrepit Japanese building? Thats genuine cyberpunk"

They should keep the building as it is if its still reasonably safe. Sounds like it has a lot of history

edit - I bet our dorm was way dirtier. Our bin bags just decided to move out one day...maggots were in the bottom of them and were crawning the bags away. Had a family of moths in our kitchen and a im sure we had the first curry mould monster ever that stood at about 2" high
