Hi

Is it possible to have user accounts that will work on an number of pc's that are not connected to a server?

There are 10 pc's all connected to a ADSL modem/router via a switch. Is it possible for user accounts to be setup that will work on any of the 10 pc's with the same username/password?

The reason they don't want a server is because they don't have the knowledge to install or maintain one and they also don't have the finds to pay a support company as it's just a small local community organisation.

Is there a simpler alternative to SBS server or similar?

All Windows machines presumably?

Can you cobble a low spec PC together, stick a *nix on it and run Samba to act as an auth server? You can also use it as a fileshare if you need. Doddle to configure too. Plus I'm sure you can get a nice web front end for easy management/password resets if needs be.

Admittedly the above isn't very good practice in an enterprise environment, and not quite what you're after. However it does fit the bill for function, and is fairly low maintenance.
