Hi guys,

My mum has a really crappy PC. Was looking at;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-239-OK&groupid=43&catid=1078&subcat=

Will that be nice and quick for internet + e-mails and basic stuff?

Also thinking should I get windows 7 or vista? I use vista and am more than happy with the support and speeds.

I don't want to overburden the pc with windows 7 unless microsoft have magically found a way to make windows 7 optimised more than vista?

surely the pc will be faster running on vista? plz advise?

Vista wasn't that bad as an OS, but I'd go with Windows 7. Theres great new features in it, and it also seems to run much easier as there are les process having to run for the OS, making it faster :)

And yes, that would be a great choice for her :)

If its just for general purpose and not doing anything speical that link with the primo is fine and dandy. Windows 7 would be my choice aswell, might aswell keep up some latest technology :)

Nice idea but I'm assuming you've used several different sites to get those prices which would push the postage cost up. :p

Okay, with that in mind...

  • AMD Athlon II X3 440 - £61.98
  • MSI GF615M-P33 - £41.46
  • PNY DIM102GBN - £42.99
  • Antec Earthwatts Green 380W - £37.09
  • Sony Optiarc DDU1681S - £11.32
  • Western Digital 320GB 16MB cache HDD - £34.98
  • Coolermaster Elite 330 - £26.71
  • PALIT G210 512MB - £30.73
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 - £16.24

Total: £303.50

ALL with free shipping. Not that you even need a graphics card but whatever.

Look around the high-street. You will find armfulls of dual-core PCs in the £300-£400 range with Windows 7 and with an LCD/LED monitor included and similar specs than you are looking at.

This is true but if you compare the quality of the components used on those PCs against overclockers... depends if you want to take a chance on cheap RAM/motherboards/PSUs.

Superewza - Fair play, guess you can make a decent custom build on just over £300 with free delivery. :p
