Using it for digital image editing and online gaming (Quakelive).

This is what I've come up with (been saving for this comp for quite a while) and have finally got the funds to purchase it :):

Will everything work ok? I read some SSD's don't work with certain Mobo's. Will the 12GB ram work with this MOBO? I'm contemplating getting http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-205-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389 that instead of the dominator as I doubt I'll notice much difference between the two? I'll also save quite a bit of money too!

Any other tips/advice would be awesome and I'll highly be grateful. Thank you guys!

Nice spec, you can drop the psu to 750w ~ and will you need 12gb of RAM, also there are cheaper alternatives, like the other Corsair you linked to.

Should last you quite some time, PSU looks OTT, would think 750W would be more than enough. Not sure about the case but someone with more knowledge may comment.

That is way over the top!

Look at my rig (sig), I can play all the latest games like Bad Company 2 and Dirt 2 etc. at 1920x1200 with all settings on high and i get great performance. Do you need to do more than this?

My advise is lose a 5870 and 6GB memory and trim back on other stuff like the PSU then with the money you've saved have a nice holiday and treasure those memories!

the ssd and mobo combination shouldn't be an issue. ( i have the earlier version of that mobo and the smaller versionm of that drive) For 12 gigs of ram though you might have to drop the speed below 1600 mhz as 1600 is only supported for 1 dimm per channel last i heard. yes the spec looks a tad overkill for quake live and image editing but that doesn't need mentioning again! if you play other games though i say go for it. 12 gigs is unneeded though and will just decrease your potential cpu overclock.
doh just had a proper look at that case - looks ok actually.

i would play it safe and look at 850w psus, but i agree that 1000w is overkill.
i would also personally ditch some ram and stick with 6gigs and a higher resultant overclock. although id stick with the dominators - peharps take some of the money saved and go with 6 gigs of the 2000mhz stuff ;)

Cheers for the replies guys. I'm going to remove one 6GB kit then. The reason I chose the 1000W powersupply was because on another website (************) they said something about how a powersupply of atleast 500W would be needed for one 5870 graphics card so I assumed it would double when having two? I have no knowledge about computer parts!

My budget is around £2800. Something I've saved up from work and footy as my current computer is 5/6 years old now and is literally on the verge of blowing up. The current spec comes to about £2500.

For photo editing and quake you DO NOT need to spend anywhere near that much, definitely no more than £1000 on the base unit.

You reckon? Thing is, I've also played other games on my machine such as Call of Duty 4 which was quite demanding (for my PC anyway) and I barely had 76 fps nevermind 125. Yet people were playing with 333fps. I'd definitely try out the new more demanding online games out in the future, but as for now I'm just playing quake. I might drop a 5870 then too o.O

Well then you just get into silly amounts of frames, you can barely notice a difference over 30fps, less so if the game has motion blur.

Do you not want some new peripherals?

looking at your case again i think it looks fine.
power requirements from the back of my saphire 5870 = 600 watts for crossfirex technology in dual mode. so go for 700 watt + to be on the safe side

Thanks mate :). Changing it for the 850W one, unless I can find another one.

To be really honest with you I would slacken the component spec off a little and invest more so in a larger better spec monitor. If you are working on images and using photo shop etc a good quality monitor is the bit of the PC you actually look at so in my opinion that is what I would invest more money in.

No that's not true, 333/250 fps makes you jump higher and further. But even then I get 333 solid with a 4890 and an i5, and you'd probably see the same and better results with a 5850. Agreeing with everyone else and saying that is a bit overkill. AMD 6 core or even a quad with a 5850 would pretty much sort you out?

if ure playing competitive on high level (dunno if he is high)online , like this guy (he made a post on www.crossfire.nu) then you will deffinatly noticed the advantages of higher fps. I dont say its much and idd the average gamer wont notice a thing between 100 and 333 but if youre playing at the highest level then you would even notice a lill Tiny dust bit on ure mousemat as it will f*k up ure laser so ye its needed to have high fps on high level competition but ure overkilling it like this as i said on Crossfire.nu :p

This should get you sorted:

And the above statement is true - you either get a high colour accuracy screen or the one that is able to show 120 fps (120hz).
