Got a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ61WN laptop, with a bit of a tricky problem!

It runs vista, and a few days ago decide not to boot up, run the repair on the vista disk and all was ok, same thing happened again a day later, tested the hard disk, all ok, but decided to get a new drive as the current one was getting a bit full anyway, so left the laptop as it was, and ordered the new drive.

New drive turns up, fit the drive, boot to install Windows and doesn't detect the disk, I assume it needs a some software for it, so go to disable the option in BIOS, but it doesnt have the option for it. Then realise the BIOS is saying it cant detect the drive, try the old drive again (which works fine, tested and shows up in other machines), again, nothing.

I for the life of me can't get this machine to detect an internal drive.

The connection from the drive to the laptop is through a ribbon cable, like so..

(not my image btw)

The ribbon just clips onto the motherboard and just pulls off.

Any ideas what I can doo!

Cheers, dave
