ok so i finished my vanilla fallout 3 on the PS3 last night and was thinking of getting the add on packs soon went against the idea as they are £40 so i looked into getting the GOTY edition and it's in between 20-30 quid on PS3 but steam are doing it for 29.99

Is the pc version better thing i like about the ps3 version is the analog sticks when using vats and lock picking as you can feel for the lock and know before your pick will break. How does the Pc version combat this?also i noticed ps3 version sometimes suffers a little slowdown here and there is the pc like this?

P:S i don't have a 360 controller so that idea is out the window just my trusty logitech setup g15/g13/g500

any help would be grateful :)

Yeah, go for the PC version. I've just started to play through it for a 2nd time with a few mods, brilliant.

Also, you need not shell out £30. Over the last few weeks the GOTY edition has been going for around a tenner, but they are now sold out. I got mine for £11.20 if it helps though :). Seems Tesco are the cheapest atm at £16.97. http://www.gamestracker.com/buy-fallout-3-goty-compare-prices-pc.htm

I got plenty of playtime out of it on Steam before i bothered to mod it, only just got round to that and damn does it shake things up. Something very entertaining about entering the Museum to grab the Lincolns Repeater for no better reason than to see if its moddable (it wasn't) and unloading about 1000 rounds of ammunition fighting ghouls there were that many.

The steam version works fine and is modable, I would recommend using the Fallout Mod Manager instead of launching it directly through steam as it launches the games for windows live stuff which is absolute rubbish.

Indeed, steam version works fine with mods since they opened up the game (and Oblivion) so the Script Extender could work which a lot of mods relied on. Nowadays i just launch FO3 through the Mod Manager using the Fallout Script Extender.

I really need to concentrate on a character for long enough before i get too interested in something else and make a new 1 ><
Already started again twice and i'm getting tempted to start a new character as an Android Sephiroth (Sephiroth hairstyle is available with the Android alternative start). Mainly because my 2nd char i started as a Brotherhood Outcast and now it seems i'm at war with the Brotherhood so my primary quest is probably screwed :p

I've played the X360 version (vanilla only), and when I got the GOTY edition for PC at Christmas, I never noticed any difference in how the lock-picking mechanic worked (or felt) with a mouse.

I actually found VATS to be easier on PC: using the mouse to select which parts to target is much more fluid than cycling through them with an analogue stick.

To be honest, the entire game is just better on PC, so do yourself a favour and buy the PC version (I suspect it'll also be cheaper).

This is one of those games where I only want the PC version really (and I play on the PS3 quite a bit). I'm going to get it when it's on sale on steam. With the new one on the horizon, it can't be that long now:D

Just buy retail edition on PC, cheapest and will be better than PS3.
Also FWIW I didn't feel the game needed mods (although that's not to say there won't be some very good ones that did improve things).

I only started playing with them a week ago but i don't think i could ever go back. The changing around of enemies from MMM giving them slightly randomised stats/sizes/skins and adding in some more, along with altering the way some work by adding in ranks and/or specialisations makes fighting enemies a lot more varied.
It really does get tedious in vanilla when you *know* by lvl20+ almost every enemy you meet is going to be a Super Mutant Master with the odd Overlord who kills you in 2 shots with the Tri-Beam if you don't disarm him first.

Evilsod what's that mod called?

Mart's Mutant Mod, or MMM for short.

To anybody looking to mod fallout 3, start off with these:

Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) - http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640
Very useful to manage your mods and change the load order.

Fallout Script Extender (FOSE) - http://fose.silverlock.org/
Doesn't change gameplay in any way, but adds lots of scripting tools which are required for some mods. Although some mods have alternate versions that don't require FOSE, you'll find that the ones that do require it are simply better overall (since FOSE allows for custom popup interfaces, etc.)

Thanks dude :)

I'm playing through it again on very hard. Such a sweet game.

Any recommendations for making the wasteland a bit more dangerous?

To be quite honest, if i had the steam version and I couldn't install a mod I wanted I would simply source the game elsewhere and use my key. To me that seems reasonable as its allowing me to play the game I actually payed for.

Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition (FWE) and Marts Mutant Mod (MMM) are the ideal places to start. The Weapon Modification Kit (WMK) is a nice addition (my silenced, scoped Ol' Painless = win) as is the Energy Visuals Enhanced (EVE) if you like energy weapons, though i couldn't get this to work and removing this seemed to get the merged patch to work. So you'll probably need FO3Edit which merges patches or something. I dunno how it works or what it does all that well but it seemed to sort everything out.

Some people have said to check the Fallout 3 Overhaul Kit (****) but personally i think it goes too far with weapons. 150+ new weapons is just excessive.

FWE generally makes it a lot harder but you can modify little things if you prefer a different or vanilla setting and some changes generally make the game a bit more focused on how you level up. 1 of the major changes is healing. Vanilla was laughably easy with all food/drink items healing you. Now all food/drink does is feed you/quench your thirst and Stimpak healing was massively reduced and restoring crippled limbs is a lot more hardcore.
Increased Increased Spawns + Feral Ghoul Rampage mods for MMM are great fun and if you go anywhere you expect to find Ghouls, i hope you have a fully automatic weapon, preferably with a large clip. It took me almost 1000 rounds of Flamethrower, Minigun, Vindicator Minigun, M60, LSW and Jackhammer ammo total to get through the Museum to grab the Lincolns Repeater. Not to mention the 500-1000 ammo i spent outside in The Mall killing off about 30-40 Super Mutants.
