I am looking to buy a HD for a new system build and plan on running my OS and a few other small programs. What is the best/quickest HD for this job? I can't afford SSD atm :(

Samsung F3 500GB - £39.99 is the fastest mechanical drive.

If you hardly need any space i'd strongly recommend you look at the small SSD's, Like the Onyx 32GB, Kingston 30GB or Intel 40GB they will be significantly faster than the Samsung and arn't that much more expensive.

Windows will boot a lot faster and be generally snappier, but obvilously if your games and large programs are on a mechanical drive then you're only gonna get half the benefit of a SSD.

Hey guys, slight hijack thread but was looking at the same thing, current hard drive is starting to sound very tired and yeah, is it best to get the standard F3 (linked in this post) or the ecogreen version?

Also is it worth getting two for a RAID 0 set up?
