Are AOL and Talk Talk really bad?

OK, I don't exactly live out in the sticks, but my broadband choice is limited.
I'm currently on ADSL MAX via Nildram and I'm happy with the service.
Due to how close I am to the exchange I get as near to 8mb down as is possible and as I'm on a Pro package I get 840k up.

I could have course move to any other ADSL Max reseller, but I really don't see the point with only Zen really being "any different" from the rest.

My Exchange has an LLU presence from both AOL and Talk Talk who can offer me bundles that include up to 24Meg which I'm assuing is ADSL2.

Prices aren't too bad.
With Talk Talk for example I can have upto 24Meg, Unlimited Download (FUP), Line rental, unlimited calls to landlines (Anytime) for £26.48 per month.

AOL comes to around £20 but they list a terrible 10GB download limit.

So bottom line - would I regret a move from ADSL Max/BT to Talk Talk?

What exchange are you on mate ? i have the same choice, don't seem to read that much bad stuff about talk talk LLU and the pro package, like yourself i am skeptical however.

I am still on an old 1mbit zen package at home as well..

Gonna be a right come down after having 21mbit o2 LLU for £7.50 a month as well as my flat :(

The thing is at the moment I'm basically using BT - anyone using ADSL Max is.
Who is reselling that piece of BT bandwidth - well that is down to personal choice.
Personally I don't feel there is really much in it between any of the ISP's with the exception of Zen.
All of them are in effect reselling you that same piece of BT bandwidth.

Going LLU of course is a totally different matter.
You are relying on their equipment at the exchange and that they have sufficient bandwidth to supply all of their customers.
According to Samknows I'm 660m from my exchange as the crow flies.
So I'm guessing that should give me quite a good download speed?

Samknows also mentiones Eclipse - do they resell Talk Talk lines?

Oh - Exchange in question is Chatteris (Fenlands).
We did initially have a 21CN date of Q3 2010 - but I doubt very much that is going to happen!

I'm in the same situation as you, I'm close to the exchange and get the full bandwidth out of my 8mb link but need to find a new ISP, choices are another non-LLU resold package or going with TalkTalk Pro.

OK, I've sorted myself out :)
I've just finished speaking to Opal - The business connection side of Talk Talk.

I'm moving on to LLU via them (they are part of the Talk Talk group).
Get my Up to 24mb connection (Estimating around 15mb)
Get my 1mb upload.
Static IP address
UK Call centres with 0800 number
Unlimited Traffic (100GB download FUP)
Line Rental
Free Evening & Weekend calls
Business class - so priority traffic accross Talk Talk network

Total cost of £23+vat (Approx. £27) per month.

So I'm happy enough with that.
I am tied into an 18 month contract, but not a real worry there.

I've been happy enough with my ADSL Max connection getting the full 8mb (well as full as possible).
Hope things don't suddenly get worse now I've gone LLU.
