How easy is clocking an I5 750 to 4Ghz

Before I buy an I5 750 instead of an I7 930,
can anyone tell me if I am using that all in one corsair h50 cpu water cooler unit, how easy is it to get an either the 750 or the I7 930 to run stable at 4Ghz? looking at a mid range gigabyte motherboard.

I don't believe it is at all difficult to get a i5 750 to 4ghz (high end asus mATX - others do the same on many boards, we have a lot of i5 OC threads) but whether you'll be happy at the voltage you'll need for it to be stable at 4ghz is up to you (and the chip)(and the mobo).

Never heard of a watercooled Kingston CPU cooler. The Corsair one? It's fine.

it depends how good your cooler is tbh. ive never heard of your cooler tried searching in google images but all that came up was coolit and corsair.

if its any help i have a 1156 i7 which i got to 3.7 without too much fuss and before i had an i5 750 which i did for a friend at 3.5

Getting 4GHz out of my i5 was a doddle. I evidently don't have the sweetest chip ever made as some can achieve 4GHz with less volts, but I dont care as the H50 keeps it all under control just fine.

Im sure every chip can get to 4Ghz but whether its at a voltage (hence heat) that you like is another matter.

i5 on custom water using a good motherboard

you can get 4.2

on a decent air cooler

4ghz is not hard

you need a good motherboard.

well i just got new i5 rig as computer died =/

but i got i5 750 and gigabyte UD5 and i have a corsair h50, i havent tried to overclock it yet but my corsair keeps it cool at the moment and i have the fans cooling the h50 silent. its an incredible cooler, and sure you could get to 4ghz on it.

You bought an i5 with a water-kit and you haven't overclocked it? Shameful.

Custom PC have covered overclocking these chips in recent editions. Maybe worth checking bit-tech

tbh, id be happy with 3.8 but 4 is a nice number! volts dependant!

I got an i5 750 two days ago and it's been sat at 4ghz 8 hour prime blend stable that whole time (excusing the hour or so of getting volts as low as possible).

Simplest clock I've ever done to be honest.

On air I am running @ 4.1GHz with the above, all quite straightforward to get it as well...

I've got a i5-750 with a H50, running at 4.0 Ghz, was reletively easy, it can and will go up to 4.2, but i'm happy to reing it back to 4 Ghz and leave it running at that.

While its being discussed what is the best mobo for overclocking an i5?

Ive got an ASRock P55 Pro and while my chip will run all the way to 4.4Ghz its only stabe at about 3.9Ghz with max volts, downside of this board is that you cant change the northbridge voltage.

Mine is under water with a GTX 260 on a 120.2 Thermochill, temps hit 60 ish under prime. Another 120.1 Thermochill is getting lined up!
