Hey guys, been offered one used for $550AUD (about 280 quid) its the non L lens, any one got one? any cop? i have some extension tubes and 50mm 1.8 which i find hard to use as the depth of field is so small due to the tubes making it darker.

I want to take good pictures of insects, i have bought a 580EX ii which i will pick up on Monday and a few diffusers also.

any recomendations on a braket to use the flash off body for macro as my in built flash was causing shadows from the lens when i was using my 300mm in macro mode.

many thanks

dude.

That is a good price if it is the USM version in good condition.

DOF at the same reproduction ratio is the same regardlesss of focal length, so you won't get a wider DOF with the 100mm. You will get increased working distance though.

I use a Hakuba LH1 flash bracket from eBay, I replaced the ballhead that comes with it as it wasn't that great. It is very good for the price.

Its a steal at that price. Lovely lens. Unfortunately Canon have apparently seen fit to discontinue it :( so if you can afford it snap it up.
