Hi Guys,
I've finally decided to upgrade from my trusty GTX280 / E8600 / GA-EP45-UD3P / 8500 DDR2 PC to something more and betterer. I had been looking at buying a Q9650 (would have been my 1st quad core cpu!) to prolong its life or just drop in a GTX480 but I doubt my current set-up would realise its true potential and the cost compared to the i7s available meant I couldn't bring myself to invest.
So keeping all the other components aside from those mentioned I've arrived at the following list which I think is pretty good from a price/performance perspective take this opportunity to prove me wrong (however note that AMD processors and graphics cards are not on the agenda)
Product Name Qty Price Line Total
OcUK Value GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card + Just Cause 2 Game £389.99
(£331.91) £389.99
(£331.91)
Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - OEM £229.99
(£195.74) £229.99
(£195.74)
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard £219.98
(£187.22) £219.98
(£187.22)
OCZ Reaper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 16000C9 (2000MHz) Tri-Channel Kit (OCZ3RPR2000LV6GK) £172.98
(£147.22) £172.98
(£147.22)
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B CPU Cooler (Socket 775/1156/1366) £42.99
(£36.59) £85.98
(£73.18)
Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin £10.21
(£8.69) £10.21
(£8.69)
Zalman Fan Mate 2 Fan Controller £3.51
(£2.99) £3.51
(£2.99)
Now I will be using my existing case which is an Antec P182 mated with an Antec Signature 850W PSU I'm assuming that this is big enough for the board and powerful enough for the new kit.. would like a bit of reassurance on that front and ill be aiming for a 4GHz overclock which from my musings seems to be the de-facto standard for these CPU's but after I have the goods I'll come to pick your brains and search the forums for tips
on a related note what can I expect to reclaim from the sale of my current components towards my new stuff?
thanks in advance!
