Job: Driver at a park and fly company near Manchester airport.
Starting training in the office next week, to add strings to my bow and help my jobs security.
Senior Sysadmin. Pay is pointless to mention given US and UK disparity.
Working Towards: Nothing specific as such, I'm happy and settled in this job / career type. Sysadmin is a bit of a wide and changing field that mostly I try to focus on where this field is going and trying to get involved or as on top of it as possible, e.g. there is interesting stuff (for me anyway) coming out of this "DevOps" movement, which is really just "Business Focused IT" under a different label.
Trying my best to get out into the real world, would love my own consultancy one day - fed up of the glacial pace, hidden agendas, and general political spin/BS!
In my experience you get that almost everywhere. You'll be fighting "that's how we've always done it" pretty much routinely, and politics (small p) seems a sad and almost inevitable fact of life.
I do pretty well where I am, but we're a small enough operation that anyone playing politics would be disastrous, and we're all working towards the same goals.
