Hi there all, basically I want to have a go at case modding and at college we used these Anti-Static Mats when taking the computers apart, I just wanted to know what the score was on one of these and perhaps if I do need one, or would prefer one to be on the safe side, which one and where the best place to get them from is?

Is this just for putting disconnected components on or will you be powering the components up for testing on these mats?

If it is the former then these kind of mats will be fine, though a clean bit of cardboard should also be fine. Cardboard is also good for testing, but I wouldn't suggest using one of the mats for testing?

I keep the anti static bags the components came in for use, earth myself on a radiator and it keeps OK. I find that mats and wristbands and all that gubbins are as much of a hindrance as a help when doing stuff like that. As long as the components are kept in/on an anti-static bag and you feel up the radiator every minute or so there is no risk
