Struggling to find meaningful numbers on the internet, so thought I'd ask here.

To what chip is a QX9770 overclocked to 4Ghz comparable with? Also is it a limiting factor for the new series of graphics cards?

Thanks

Hmm this processor looks old:

3DMark Vantage (High)

  • QX9650 @ 3.6Ghz
  • 4Gb Ram
  • GTX 295

score:

  • CPU Score 14047
  • Graphics Score 12619
  • Total score 12815

--------------------

  • Intel i7 965 @ 3.3ghz
  • 6gb Ram
  • GTX 295

Score:

  • CPU Score 23717
  • Graphics Score 24728
  • Total score 24571

So nearly double the score?

Not the same cpus i know, but its 775 vs 1366 and I think they'll be proportionally accurate to what you've got in your first post. As you can see when it comes to real world gaming the gap isn't that big at all compared to that Vantage comparison. I can personally vouch for this having compared the two rigs in my sig.

For benching, 3D work, encoding, etc you do notice the difference with the i7 though.

Why is it being compared with an i7 965? Is this comparison with regard to RRP or current performance?

The i7 965 was around £800 odd was it not, the QX9770 around £1k? Why not just go the whole hog and add an i7 980X for another comparison in benchies? Or add the i7 930 and AMD's X6 1090T and X4 965 Black Edition at real world prices where performance versus cost has caught up and made a difference?

I would have thought an i7 930/950/960 at 4ghz would be comparable in performance to a QX9770 at 4ghz?

This is from last year, however I doubt things would have changed too much with the new DX11 graphics cards:

The last graph on the summary diagrams page is really want you want to look at. With 1920 x 1200 resolution in most games it's fairly close and in the games where the i7 has a more significant lead the FPS are so high any way that you probably won't care about the extra 20% or so.

if all you do is game and rip the odd vid, there shouldnt be much diffrence if at all,i went from a q6660 to the i7 and i hardly seen any diffrence and your chip is a lot better than my old one,my advice is keep the chip and upgrade ur graphics card and then upgrade next year with sandy bridge
