You should use Linux to back up your files. No file name length and it handles any errors etc beautifully. Unlike windows utilities and especially copy and paste in windows. Rsync would also be a good idea to look into as when it is set up properly it will save you a lot of time as it only syncs the files that have been changed or added etc.
