Gamecube would have to be the Metroid Prime series for me. I don't think you can have Resident Evil 4 as it was not as exclusive and for me, its not something you would immediately associate with the Nintendo brand. Another possibility would be Wind Waker, pretty much encapsulated for me the whole Gamecube experience.

Surely if you were going to go by a racing series for xbox/360 you would have chosen Forza...

PGR is the second best selling launch Xbox game, after Halo. So no, plus it came out in 2005 when the Xbox was way into it's life, too far in to make a massive impact imo, and it was overshadowed by GT3 and 4.

Dreamcast - Crazy Taxi

YES! :D

It was one of the games that I had with my Dreamcast, along with Soul Calibur. I was amazed at the time that it actually had real places in the game like Pizza Hut and KFC. Oh the soundtrack was great as well even though it was only about 4 songs long. :p

Dreamcast - Soul Calibur
Xbox - Halo: Combat Evolved
360 - Gears of War
PS1 - Final Fantasy VII/Gran Turismo/Metal Gear Solid (impossible to pin down on one)
PS2 - This one is actually hard simply because of its phenomenally outstanding repertoire of games. I'd probably pick GTA3
PS3 - Killzone 2 (for better or worse, that trailer didn't help)
Gamecube - Resident Evil 4
Wii - Wii Sports
PC - Doom

If you want to boil it down by format:

Sony - no idea
Microsoft - Halo
Nintendo - Mario
Sega - Sonic
PC/Windows - Doom

It's odd that Sony doesn't really have a distinguishing series or character, but that's just down to its versatility, breadth and range of its games and first party titles. Someone mentioned Final Fantasy earlier, but that's a PC & 360 series too, and has been ever since 7 which came out over ten years ago.

Ratchet & Clank perhaps

Or are they multi platform?

early sony - Crash Bandicoot / Spyro / Croc / Lara Croft
Later Sony - Ratchet & Clank / Jak & Daxter / Kratos / Snake
Current Sony - Sackboy / Nathan Drake

I think its a good thing on sonys part they have so many individual characters, i think its also down to Gran Turismo being one of Sonys biggests games and you cant really have 'Dodge Viper' as your consoles main mascot really..... can you?

edit: i also think its part also that the later Crash / Tomb Raider games were pants and Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter never really took off as much as sony hoped

Some of these are pretty obvious repeats but no one can help that :)

N64 - Goldeneye or either of the Zelda's (3d at its best)
PS1 - MGS
PS2 - GT4 (though gta3 is too close to call)
PS3 - It will be gt5 come the magic day
Any nintendo hand held - Pokemon
Dreamcast - Shenmue (most the other classics are arcade ports which is cheating a little....)
Mega Drive - Sonic 2 (and Knuckles)
Xbox - Halo
