Either mute the mac before turning it off or get something like this:

Lol blah blah there's a sound when you start it up.
You have the bios doing post beeping at you on a PC, I don't see the problem.

People switch their Macs off?
All the Macs in our house sleep. Only ever get restarted when it is needed - switching off does not compute.
Oh and just mute the sound before reboot if you don't like it. The sound has been there from way back and I doubt it is going away. Although I wish the Happy Mac was back at startup rather than the Apple logo.

I liked that scene!
I also got weird looks!Also @ the people who turn their computers off. Why!?
When I come to use my computer I want to use it there and then, not have to wait for it to turn on!

I turn my Mini off. Only takes a minute to start up.
That's due to change once we move and it's put in a rack though.
