Breaker bars

Howdy chaps, am using christmas to expand my tool collection and at the moment i don't own a breaker bar.

What sizes are going to be most useful?

I can see three halfords professional

I have an 18" 1/2 drive Teng Breaker bar that get used with a piece of scaffold bar and the knuckle hasnt broke/opened up yet

24 inch. The smaller ones wont fit in anywhere useful so you might as well get the biggest you can to make your life easy with tight bolts.

24 inch, I've got a Sealey AK730 and use it all the time, very handy on wheel bolts or tight suspension bolts.

the 16" is sufficient for pretty much everything imo without being too unwealdy

24", anything less was too much hard work for hub nuts, suspension bolts in my experience!

Have a small 16/18" halfords one which couldn't undo the spindle nuts holding in my driveshaft on the front.

Went and picked up the 24" and it cracked them off with ease!

Definately lookonline though as the halfords one cost me £27 and I'm sure you could do better than that.

thats my weapon of choice. that plus a length of exhaust or scaffold has never failed

i have honestly seen that breaker bend 30* before. mystery how it didnt snap

I have that very one 24", did break it once, but I was really swinging on it. They replaced it of course, lifetime guarentee I think.

My torque wrench is 16". I wind it up to max torque and use it as a bar and it's never failed to get anything undone. You could go for the 24" 'just in case' and for extra man points in the toolkit

I've got the 16" and I'll admit to having to shove a pole over the end to get a few stubborn things undone.

Should be ok as long as it doesn't click - never swing on a torque wrench once it clicks.

Mind, looking at the stuff you build and maintain you know that already!

Does yours torque in both directions?

Many only torque in the clockwise direction!

For hub nuts you need the longest you can get. I had a 16" one and had to shove a pole over it to get it to shift it.

Get the 24", was gonna say a 12" or so 3/8th drive breaker bar could be a good idea as well (if you have the sockets for it) but they don't seem to list one...

Buy 2 of them, why not? You'll be needing a few sizes anyway, and saves swapping tools around the whole time!

you want a 3/8 breaker and 1/2 breaker tbh.

my 3/8 breaker gets used more use as you can get it into smaller spaces
