They don't seem to realise that the world is a lot smarter than they are. The best hackers probably don't work for the government so its best not to **** off the black hat hackers in the public domain.

Hackers have absolutely nothing to do with this though, it's not wikihackeddocumentsfromgovernmentcomputers its wiki leaks, or in other words wiki someone who works there gave them us.

This is what I thought too, but people seem to think Assange has personally hacked government systems to steal the documents. He is no more than a journalist.

What was it that governments say when our own privacy is put into question?

"If you haven't done anything wrong, there's no need to worry."

Funny to see what happens when the shoe is on the other foot.

Ever said anything nasty/mean/bad about your boss, co-worker, mates gf behind thier backs?

Do you think anything would improve if someone went and told your co workers this?

Governments aren't some mysterious entity out to **** you over, they are a group of normal people just like you, out to **** you over, just like normal people **** each other over every day.

Your just not getting it. Maybe a message from a president can put it in a better way.

Wikileaks is not just releasing meaningless stuff. The cables so far :

U.S. Tax Dollars Fund Child Sex Slavery in Afghanistan
The US and China colluded to derail negotiations at the climate conference in Copenhagen last year.
drug giant hired investigators to find evidence of corruption on Nigerian attorney general to persuade him to drop legal action
Witnesses in Burma claim to have seen evidence of secret nuclear and missile sites being built in remote jungle
Shell boasts it has infiltrated Nigerian government

and these are only a few of the 250,000.

If Assange released documents about Russia, he'd have been taken to hospital already with radioactive poisoning. Russia can swing on a **** and count themselves lucky classified documents regarding the shocking criminality in their political system hasn't been outed already.

You mean the one which was released stating :

Russia has become a virtual "mafia state" with widespread corruption, bribery and protection rackets

The cables, published by the Guardian newspaper, paint a picture of a corrupt Russia centred around the leadership of Mr Putin. Bribery in the political system totals an estimated $300bn (£192bn) a year, the paper says.

PM Vladimir Putin told CNN there may be "political purposes" behind the leaks but they were "no catastrophe".

There are no official Russian documents. Only US diplomatic documents. Everyone knows about the here-say. They keep executing reporters who publish the here-say in Russian newspapers.

So a man accused of murdering his wife in South Africa was today bailed in this country, one of the reason being his face is now so well known he will not abscond.

Yet man equally as well known on a lesser charge is remanded.
