Help with maths question!

So I had a maths exam today and one of the questions in it had me completely stumped! I just could not work it out. I suspect that once I know what the answer is it will all come clear to me.

The question is as follows:

6 + 2x = x - 6

What is the value of x?

Does anyone know what the answer is, if so, could you explain it to me? :confused:

take an x from both sides

6 + x = -6

take a 6 from both sides

x = -12

Subtract X from both sides
6 + x = - 6
Subtract 6from both sides
x = -12

I'd have thought most people could do that almost instantly from intuition alone.

Some of us have learning difficulties and find things that others may find easy, difficult.
