Looking to replace my ageing HD ready Bravia. Been looking at the Samsung UE40D6100 but as I'm likely to sell my current set for the best part of £200 my budget is £800ish which puts the Panasonic TX-P42GT30B in my sights.

So I guess what I'm asking is which technology is better right now, I've only had LCD but the better blacks and faster refresh rates are tempting me over to plasma.

Plasma technology is generally considered to be better for blacks and gaming. I believe this is still the case.

The Panasonic TX-P42GT30B looks to be a superb TV - did you go for one in the end?

Yes, went for the Panasonic, superb picture quality. Got John Lewis to price match Richer Sounds but still got the 2 pairs of glassed JL were offering.

Nice work that man!

Think I might just pop over to Cribbs and try to get the same deal :)

Do they need you to attend the store or can it all be arranged over the phone?
