With a huge problem with police officer numbers compared to active frontline officer numbers, we can cut officer numbers without impacting frontline if the police forces are willing to stop playing political games and cutting frontline because they know it will be unpopular, and therefore more likely to get the budget cuts reversed.

The problem is the number of police officers in non-officer roles (they still count in the numbers) and the number of officers in specialist units regardless of the effectiveness of those units concentrating on a tiny proportion of overall crime.

Dolph, speaking as someone who has more experience of Policing in his little finger than you have in your entire body, you're talking total rubbish.

I've been a frontline uniformed Constable for 24 years. We are small in number compared to the total number of Officers in the Force, however there is no way Frontline Officers can be expected to patrol and protect the Public without long term investigations being handled by the Specialists.

I'm backed up by CID, Public Protection Units (that deal with Sex Offenders / Domestic Issues / Child Abuse / Elderly Person Abuse), Surveillance Units (who obviously don't wear uniform and often cannot intervene due to blowing their cover), Underwater Search Units, Air Support and Special Branch to name just a few departments that aren't traditionally considered Front line i.e in Uniform on Patrol.

You make cuts to those departments and believe me they are already happening, then who does their job? No-one? Rubbish, you need those Officers to back up the Frontline - remove them and you either stop doing those jobs or have to remove Frontline Officers to replace them. Net result the Public will suffer.

Err, where did they say turn off twitter forever, also, legitimate uses that are life or death during a riot, where turning it off COULD be life and death, very happy for them to block it when people are using it for organising arson attacks thanks very much.

Yeah, the police can forceably remove a face mask, thats why no one in the houses of parliment, nor any police advisers mentioned this, no, they don't have that power.

There WERE NOT TOO FEW POLICE OFFICERS, stop lying, the top brass in the police DID NOT CALL ENOUGH IN FAST ENOUGH. Did you notice there were 16k on the streets and the riots all but stopped, so, there were enough police, you can not argue otherwise, doing so repeatedly shows you for what you are frankly.

No, criminality doesn't have anything to do with inequality, anyone, of any background, race, age can choose to partake in criminal activity, and anyone can choose not to. Did only poor people take part, no, did any rich people or well off people get involved, yes, was it all black or white people from poor area's, no.

One of the biggest problems, is when Labour flat out lie to poorer people about whose fault it is. Labour are still perpatrating this myth that all bankers are responsible for the economic crisis and that they dodge tax, and that Torys are cutting things that don't need cutting and they insist on telling everyone its hitting the poorest the hardest. These are all complete lies, Labour are benefiting from lying to the poorest and least educated parts of the nation, to score political points. They lie, to get votes, while growing hate against the targets they make up to blame which is everyone but themselves.

True, though if they happen to turn off a major site for the entire UK when only a tiny part is being affected?

Not a chance in hell, they should be localised and twitter should be able to help with that if they want.

Who still think it's about the repressed people with no opportunities in life?

Well, the media seem to be focusing on a select few of those being prosecuted. Surely you don't think all the rioters are accounting students?

In the footage I've seen, it certainly looks like a vast majority of kids from council estates, with some foolish opportunists joining in.

It was started by yobs enjoying themselves for the thrill but then opportunists jumped in - yobs smash window joe public walks by sees that shiny 55" 3d tv and thinks what the hell.

Shove a camera in the yobs face and it's all repression, no job, shooting, them and us, police being heavy handed etc.

That basically sums it all up.

As someone who has served frontline, what is your opinion on how well the police situation was handled? What could be changed if need be?
