Yep - 11 :) (not wanting many tonight)

Nope - happily (?) married with one beautiful and gorgeous girl :)

... and you haven't even at least given the kid a drunken lecture on the futility of adult existence?

Colour me VERY disappoint!

I'm on the homebrew. Hasn't come out very strong so I'm caning through it to clear the keg for a stronger Christmas beer. Pint no. 7 or 8 or something now, and just barely getting buzzed. :(

Bull. If you really wanted to do it you would do it, getting drunk and insulting people on an internet forum is no-ones best.

Stop drinking, stop replying, and go to bed.

Please - tell me how to stop drinking. Please.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, but if people call me a liar, they can bugger off. I'm just maybe trying to find out if there are other alcoholics/people with alcohol concerns on this forum.

Think what you will - I usually drink at least 10 pints of 5% beer per night. Every night. 7 days a week. For the last 15-18 years (I forget exactly how long).

Drinking that amount desensitizes you. It may seems a lot to you, but a normal amount to me.

My last pint was about an our ago. FWIW- I ********* hate it and I want to stop. Hence my other post. Well done for you puttting them both together. Have some stars

OP, seriously think you need to seek some professional help if you really want to quit alcohol. Not quite sure how your wife has put up with it for 15 years did you say??

Not a great memory for your daughter to grow up to, that impression of her father. Seriously get some help.

And the people claiming BS at the thought of drinking 10+ pints.. people do it on a daily basis, it's called tolerance.

I'm not a big drinker myself, but over the space of a day, starting at 11am and finishing at 5 the next morning, I could shift 10 pints and copious amounts of spirits.

Usually you just get so drunk you end up sober again.

Unfortunately true. There's a bloke in my building who is in a bad way.

Regularly see him clanking back from the Supermarket with at least 4 bottles of wine every day. It's not much fun when he relieves himself in the lift either.

yeah, watching their recordings is like watching some of those tv shows you see, wondering how people could be so stupid/bad.

this guy collapsed and did a poo poo in his trousers whilst trying to buy booze. other guys taken fits and the staff had to feed the guy a can of extra strong lager to make him stop.

you could stop buying booze for a start.

dont go to pubs, even if your friends invite you, just tell them your busy.

dont go anywhere which serves alcohol.

i know a guy who is trying to stop, whenever he drinks he doesnt stop for days, sometimes weeks, he doesnt care about work, his family or anything, they dont see him for days, his family usually need to cover his shifts (family business). he has went weeks without drinking but when he has one he can't stop.

basically you need to stop buying the stuff, you should have zero alcohol in the house and you shouldnt go anywhere which sells the stuff.

not as easy as that, alcohol DEPENDENT, their bodies don't function without alcohol, they become very very ill.

I have tried Norcas, and some unpleasant stuff was uncovered - I found it really hard to continue, so I stopped (and got seriously back on the booze)

I've been with my missus for 19 years - if it hadn't been for her then a tall building or a train would have done for me a long while ago.

My little girl has never see me drunk, and I hope never will.

I'm just/was plumbing the depths - see if anyone else had a problem. I guess not.

Enjoy your perfect lives. Want to swap?

it is as easy as that, what do you think they do in clinics? drip feed them and wean them off?

no they go cold turkey and he has to sweat it out.

if you want to stop bad enough, it can be done, it's all willpower and mentality. his girl should be reason enough alone to stop, never mind the fact he is overweight and obese.

Nobodies life is perfect, everyone lives to struggle, to understand life, and all that goes with it. to swap your life with me, you'd be no happier, you'd just be in another body with the same problem trying to drown it out through different means.

do something positive mate, theres a lot of beauty hidden beneath the pavements you walk on and the concrete you're bored of, search for it

Depending on how much alcoholics drink, it can kill them to completely stop.
but you are right, it is about willpower and mentality, likely he has to sink to the depths of hell before he can change, but it sounds like hes already there,

all in all a sad tale when an alcoholic stoops to a internet forum to confess his addiction, but its an illness. if you've never been addicted to any subtance (and i don't mean cigarettes) it's difficult to understand

I simply cannot not purchase booze. It's so pathetic. I have given up smoking (15 years at 30 a day) just like *that* but I can't give this up.

I'm rambling - sorry - I'll try the GP route again - see what she recommends this time.

Thanks to all the post - helpful and otherwise :)

i doubt many alcoholics would be on here, never mind at 1 am on a friday night.

i can tell by your mentality that you have not yet hit rock bottom, your just depressed.

when you hit rock bottom its going to go 1 of 2 ways, 1 of them is not going to be a great option.

You have children and a wife of 19yrs. I'd say thats' better than my life. We all have our problems, sometimes it up to use to sort them, be strong and look for ourselves for help rather than others. You know you have a problem so stop hoping someone one else will solve it and take those steps yourself, because frankly you'll die sooner rather than later if you don't

There are people there to guide you along the path but you have to take the first steps along the road.

I was prescribed 60Mg of Mirtazipine for a while. Been off it for a bit. I need to go back and see the Doc I think.

Things are bad.

They'll get better, I'm sure.

/edit - I've also been taking dihydrocodeine. With the booze. I'm ****ed up. :(

at 6'2" and 11 stone, i'd be able to drink about 6 pints of wife beater juice before I'm smashed I think. Roughly equates to about 10 carlsbergs, fosters etc.

Therefore I'm with the guys saying "bs!".

Well clearly you are a lightweight my good man :)

The more you drink, the more accustomed to it you get.

/edit - I've been drinking heavily since I was 16 years old - 20 odd years

Depending where you work you might be able to sort something out with your HR Dept., if you can get across how the stresses of your work has made you turn to drink they may be able to sort out some specialist Private care.
