I can't help get extremely mad at the state of the music around now. Why is there so much of this manufactured pap around, program after program about promoting more morons who probally haven't played an instrument or writen a song in their lives. And those dance album adverts just make me mad.

Why is so much music so poor?

Opinions Please.

I am the only one who gets extremly annoyed, my mates say I should chill. I am pretty laid back but when it comes to this I am not and happy to show my view. Why is so much music so poor?

Opinions Please.

I tell u why m8, my m8 is quite into doing dance tunes, trance, progressive house etc i mean making/writing them not mixing ala dj`s. i went with him to buy some kit, it was synth, i had a quick play, bear in mind i have never touched any sorta keyboard/synth before, i managed to string together a cheesy dance melody in 10 mins of playing with this virus c, its just so damn easy, thats why there is so much pap, also dj`s get far too much credit, what do they really do, play someone elses music! plus it dont help when people like dave pearce and pete tong own half of the labels that are played on radio 1, they are just pushing there own cheesy rubbish, last and this year they were pushing trance (trance, dont make me laugh, ot nearly as good as stuff from 3-4 yrs go!!) now this year they are gonna push drum n bass(or stuff that resembles it) market forces are ruining the music industry. we need action now whos with me

You wanna know why it's so popular?

Cos people buy it. Sad but true.....

Yes - dance/trance music is incredibly easy to string together with todays technology, which is why the market is flooded with such pap. It's rare that someone with any talent (Armin Van Buuren for example) comes along and is able to get the decent music out there.

On the upside, "proper" trance etc will always be around - just a little more difficult to find. You'll have to make a bit more effort to search out the proper clubs and events (a la Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen etc) rather than the chunder that MOS and the like is supporting and pumping out.

At the end of it all it comes down to money. Cheese sells, and so long as it does, they'll be people selling it. :(

But surely this constant pressure from advertisements the media etc are actually forcing people to buy this rubbish without them actually listening to what they personally like in music and why.

Indeed, DJs do get FAR too much credit for what is a rather simple job. Mixing tunes isn't really that difficult... writing them. Well, that's a different kettle of fish.

The best DJs are those who write their own material, by far.

I stand by my statement, yes mixing is a skill, but writing a class tune is something else, cafe del mar, gouyrella, insomnia, synathesia (sp) push etc etc were class tunes that will get the hairs on the back of ur neck standing, yes its great for all of the dj`s to bring the tunes to us, but it has become so comercialised, they are bringing anything and everything to the fore front good or not!

Armin van buuren seems to be the man of the moment, i have a few of his mix sets and they are class. as for clubbing for the real experience get urselves down to my neck of the woods, gods kitchen at code is a night to remeber, and the global gathering a few months ago was truly amazing.

Look at the current offering doing well in the charts, flip n fill, i want to dance with someone, and the rhindstone cowboy, wtf are these tunes total and utter rubbish. if u want a good tune atm, oxygen feat andrea britton - am i on ur mind. can u recommend some more? oh and i got the dj sammy album, god its poor.

It's all rubbish, it's been eons since anything new thats been played on MTV has stuck in my head. Good music sticks, everything else (this cheesy pop and manufactured rubbish) is just forgotten :(

Shame really, even the yanks are laughing at us for importing their rap (spelt with a capital C) music :( I'll just stick to guitar i think

If you dont like it, dont listen to it. I listen to trance/hard house/d'n'b/happy hardcore aswell as hip hop and just about every other genre.

Yeah i too am a pop hater. As for pete tong being cheesy, i think u need to take another look at what he plays. The idea of the essential selection is that its the music thats being played in rated clubs. The buzz chart is the voted by punters bit which u could consider more cheesy but its not ur average punter that gets to vote. dave pearce on the other hand is cheesy as it a pound of edam. Jules is a bit cheesy but he gets away with it by doing the odd decent tune. I have never heard tong play anything like dnb so i dunno where that came from. As to them deciding where the music goes, they may have a little influence but most of the big djs have their own sound and aren't one to change it for someone elses bidding. R1 also have the "one music" programme in operation where they encourage new artists to send in demos. I know someone who sent stuff in and got it played by pete tong in LA etc. If anything that proves that r1 are encouraging new styles of music rather than enforcing one.

i also find it funny that u mock cheesy songs then have an extremely cheesy song in ur fave list wohoo. Gouryella originally comprised of ferry corsten, tiesto etc, however tiesto left because the music was too cheesy. And he's rated no1 dj in the world so u can't argue with the dood! Seriously tho, i've seen ferry twice and he is a cheesy bugger. i still enjoyed it tho.

As for DJ's getting too much credit. Yeah they do take the limelight a bit but as most of us know its very hard to get into the industry, to get to a reputable position u have to be something special in ur particular genre. And u can't deny, almost all of the top DJ's have been in the game for at least 10 years.

One thing i am disappointed in is matt darey. i used to respect him as a producer but now i hear scooter and kelly lorrenna are in his current top 5 tracks. Wot a loser :(

scooter.....that name sends a shudder down my spine.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad: . They are by far the most annoying thing I've heard...

There is, as always, good music out there. It's just you have to look for it. The sad thing is that buying good records now for me means spending uber money (which I don't have) on lots of white labels to get the best tunes. I wouldn't mind buying fairly commercial stuff if it was good. I don't necessarily go for "underground" stuff just because it's not popular.

On the DJ issue, yes, mixing is a skill, as is performing when the pressure is on but it's as much about who you know as what you know. Very few DJs get into the business by flooding the world with their mix tapes (save a few exceptions like John Digweed who sent a tape to Renaissance).

Damo, my ref to dnb was what the market forces push, i must agree essential selection is not too bad, far better than dave cheese pearce, did u know that most of the cheese artists, lasgo, ian van dahl etc are signed to dave pearces label!! and the euphoria collection, how good were the first few!!

Goyrella was ok imo, didnt know tiesto and corsten were in it together, corsten was ok when he started but he aint done anything decent in 2-3 yrs imo, even tiesto, i had his last mix set, and it werent too hot at all,

this sending stuff into dj`s is a bit of a joke too, if u aint too carefull, the writer can seriously get ripped off, but again who gets all the credit, the dj`s, they get lauded for finding this new class tune, where as someone in reality has just sent it to them.

Shame about Darey aint it. :( I especially liked some of his stuff. "Moody" is a corking track if you ask me, but it's going to be commercialised soon with a vocal. :(

Gouryella originally comprised of ferry corsten, tiesto etc, however tiesto left because the music was too cheesy. And he's rated no1 dj in the world so u can't argue with the dood!

Indeed, saying that though the last Gouryella track wasn't too cheesy if you ask me. The string break down is just beautiful.. Hell, van Buuren played it at the last NEC Gatecrasher and everyone loved it. :D

As for Tiesto being the number 1 Dj in the world.. yes, he's good.. but I prefer to listen to someone who actually writes the music they put their name to.. ;)

I wasn't a great fan of moody but his old tracks were anthems at the time. I dont mind ligaya in moderation but it could do with a bit of an avb remix.

I think we are all united in slating ol' dave pearce.
